Favourite whisky or whiskey

or however that dang word is written! : ) Use this forum to discuss those things that are related to, directly, or indirectly, fly fishing, i.e., tackle, catalogs, single malt scotch, cigar preferences, pipes, camera gear, etc. This is sort of an off topic area but one related to bamboo and fly fishing.

Favourite whisky or whiskey

Anything goes here, as long as it is a whisky. You can be general and give a country or region, type, or be more specific and name brand, year and barrel number. I’ll start and say bourbon, and Buffalo Trace.

Paul- Life is too short to drink cheap whisky and only fish with plastic rods. I have a treat for you on our next trip.

On a vacation to the Dark Continent a couple of years ago we decided to break the flight up and spent a couple of days in Edinburgh on the return. A visit to a whiskey bar opened my eyes to the different styles of scotch. Since then, I have been slowly sampling scotches from different regions. Some standouts are Lagavulin 16 y or Laphroaig quarter cask for peaty scotches and Aberfeldy 18 y for non-peaty.

Any high quality Irish, or Bourbon Whiskey works for me. I do pick them up on sale whenever possible, vast selection is generally available at some stores.

My everyday favorite with ice is Evan Williams Bourbon. For a wee dram of single malt its Laphroaig10 for peated , Talisker 10 & a milder Scotch Balvenie 12 double Wood. I guess I just like Scotch Whisky the best.

I don't know how your folks can drink that stuff. To me it smells like rod varnish. :)

Lagavulin (carefully hoarded for special occasions), Laphroaig for not quite so special, Teachers for my every day go to.
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)

I was a scotch drinker for years. Then, on one of my last trips to Canada, a friend shared some Canadian Club Small Batch twelve year old whiskey. I loved it; its what I drink now, and buy as much of it as I can whenever I find it (hard to find; not carried in VT state liquor stores, which is the only game in town in the state).

I find it depends on the day and my mood (and the company). There are scotch days and there are bourbon days. Once that is determined, it comes to a matter of what kind of assault you wish to place on your taste buds, married to the meal, smokes if they are around and again the company.

I'm going to have to side with Mark that "I don't see how you folks can drink that stuff." But then I often swing soft hackles down and across to rising fish!

Lagavulin, Laphroaig or Talisker.

And on a different note, I've recently found Suntory Hibiki Japanese Harmony to be very enjoyable.

A recent favorite is Slane Irish whiskey, veeery smooth and tasty. Won't break the bank either.

Elijah Craig barrel proof. The C920 release is particularly good.
