Greetings and thanks in advance

Hi there, and greetings trout-starved flyover country.
I've enjoyed a variety of forums over many years on diverse topics. A total beginner when it comes to fly fishing, at least I can say I've been a fly fisherman for ~30 years... Just an absolutely terrible one. Tapping into the collective wisdom here; it's been very fun to lurk here for several weeks, and see this forum going strong for well-over a decade. Decades?

I'm pushing 60, and long ago inherited a Montague Rapidan from my late Father-in-law. Now, I'm ready to post some photos, ask for advice, and do a very quick and dirty restoration so that I may catch at least one more trout on this boo rod before I can't get out there any more! You each have my great respect for your passions wrt classic fly rods. Looking forward to asking lots of questions! Thanks very much.

Decades is correct...

hey just what is Clark's site age now anyways ?

"...before I can't get out there any more". Sweet, fancy Moses, Joe- you're a Spring chicken! I look forward to seeing that Rapidan in action.

Welcome, Joe! Lots of us here have a fair number of years on ya! You just have to pick your battles, pick your days, AND definitely use a wading staff.

Hey Joe - Welcome - I saw in another one of your posts that you are in Des Moines. I came into this world 60 years ago in downtown DSM at Mercy Hospital. Spent the first 10 years of my life on 30th street in West DM. Walked uphill both ways - in blizzard conditions - to Fairmeadows grade school (grin). My brother is in Norwalk so I still get up that way. NE Iowa and SW Wisconsin are great areas to take that Montague.

Welcome Joe. I think that rod in the photo looks great just as it sits, but I prefer my old pickup in original & slow condition vs a zippy resto-mod. This is a great community to hang around with, learn from, and contribute to.
