Has the state Michigan been pushed out of the FLY Union?

Have we offended the fly fishers, rod builders of the Nation?

What's Pottstown, Utica, or Denver got that we ain't got?

We still got rivers here, we have had a few rod builders here.

I think Trout Unlimited was founded here, that's a plus.

I haven't heard of a gathering or a conclave here in 30 years that I know of.

What did we do wrong? Mike

Hi Mike,

Grayrock will be in Grayling MI this year towards the end of June, date depending on venue. It has been there for many years and we went in 2017 and had a great time. Here's their website: https://rodmakersgr.wixsite.com/mysite

I never heard one word about it and we camp in that area every year.
I used to visit Rusty Gates at the fly clinic when he was still with us.
We used to have a fly show near Detroit and saw Bob Summers every time but that fell by the wayside.
I just don't get to travel much in the last decade, I used to write a lot, but I lost interest in that too.
I have been fooling around with some prototype's but no one is interested in that area.

Hello Mike -
The CFRF 'Search' function, in the convenient window at the top of this page, is much undervalued and often overlooked.
A check for 'Grayrock' will show dozens of notices and postings about this venerable gathering that has been a model
for Fly Fishing conferences since the early 1990s. As Tom explained, they are planning, Covid-willing, a meet-up again this year.
On your next mid-summer visit to 'Up North' Michigan you may want to check it out.
In April, many of us will be celebrating the cane fishing tradition of the Southern Appalachians and Great Smoky Mountains National Park
at BambooBash22 in Townsend Tennessee.

Well, thank you very much, I have been out of touch for quite a while with the outside world.
I have been spending a great deal of time in my shop upgrading, rebuilding, and restoring a lot of cane rods, 69 of them in 2021.
Built two new ones and one prototype experimental, strange looking but functional.
I will do the search bar as you instructed while I have some free time. Grayrock.
Thanks again, Mike.

Thanks for the offer Jed. Will certainly be interested to try silk for the first time and see how the different manufacturers compare.

Though I have not finalized the new lines, we will have the following (floating lines) ready to cast:

Wulff TT 4, 5 and 6wt lines
Wulff LB/Bamboo 4, 5 and 6
Peach DT 4, 5 and 6
Sylk WF and DT 4, 5 and 6
H&H DT 4, 5 and 6
Rio Gold 4, 5 and 6
MaxCatch/Lazer/Amazon WF 4,5 and 6
Rio Mainstream DT 4, 5 and 6
SA Aircel Trout WF 4, 5 and 6
SA Mastery DT 5 (Will hopefully add the 4 and 6 in the coming weeks.
SA Amplitude MPX 5 (WF)
SA Amplitude DT 5
406 WF and DT 4, 5 and 6
A few others I'll update a bit later

There are several 7 and 8wt lines as well.

All 4, 5 and 6wt lines are on Pflueger 1494 spools. There are 6 x 1494 bodies, each with a different foot to ensure a reasonable fit on the variety of reel seats.
The 7, 8 and 9wt lines are spooled on Pflueger 1495s.

Doug:

Do you have a process for weighing the first 30 feet of the lines? That could be revealing. A powder scale maybe?
