On to the nickel silver side plate rings. Procurement of the 1/4" thick nickel silver material was pretty tough as most places I typically use did not have any in stock. Thanks to my buddy, Tim Gelinas, of Farlex Reels, I was able to trade some thicker stuff I had for a large piece of 1/4" thick plate he had perfect sized for 10 side plate rings. I rough cut the over sized rings with a plasma cutter and then rough turned them on the lathe slightly oversized. Next steps are to finish to size 5 front and rear side rings.

Far better than any TV show on this marble.

Looking forward to more.

Been slow going, but working on the ebonite inserts. Starts with machining to size and then a very labor intensive process of starting out with 220 grit sandpaper down to 3000 grit, then a final finish on the buffer. Doing in a few in all black and a few in marbled black/blue.

Finally getting back to these reels. Machined matching press forming dies to create spool end plate. Use hydraulic press to form to shape.

I have a question. How are you going to sign your reel so it won't be misrepresented by someone in the future as an original, vintage item? It looks like you will be able to replicate the original reel.
Good point, Ron. I hope this amazing craftsman signs his work, even subtly.

Did you mark your name on them? Otherwise they're counterfeit. Easily sold off in the future as original. The workmanship looks superb. I'd think one would be proud of one's work and mark it with a name or a logo.
