A place to discuss the collecting and tying of classic flies, the tyers who made them famous, the tools, materials and techniques they used as well as the waters they were designed for. While classic is generally used to describe old things, classic is also used in the sense of first class or in the highest form. Therefore a fully dressed Salmon Fly, or a Carrie Stevens Streamer are just as much classics as a Chernobyl Ant would be. Enjoy the forum.

Ready for this......Six flies tied by Bob Jacklyn just sold on the Angling Marketplace Auction site for $515.00. Yup, you read that right, $515.00. Six stoneflies tied in 1999. They came from the estate of a Chuck Echer. Unbelievable. ???

Well, to me, quite believable, and I think time will prove this a very good deal: the flies are iconic stone flies, came with a signed note, and have very good provenance--. Sometimes you have one or the other--but in this case, all three three lined up--7 7 7.

Can you imagine the swearing when he loses them all in a morning’s outing on the Madison? I hope he catches at least a few before then.

Funny thought, but I suspect they will never see water. :)

Definitely a joke about losing the flies and yes those flies are about unlikely to see water as any - but the thought somebody would fish $100 flies just because they thought they would work really well is pretty hilarious.

I’m with you, I don’t understand the price paid and I’m skeptical it is a good long term investment but what do I know.

Somewhat different and they are in individual containers with a signed card from Bob. Go to the Angling Marketplace and click on item #550 or 607 & 608 for the others of Bob's.

Guess I should have bought a few the last time I was at his shop a few years ago. There were several patterns tied by Bob, including stoneflies, all under $25.

That's the point. A lot of those flies were sold to tourists visiting West. Unless I'm completely missing something, they don't seem to be unicorns.

If the buyer is happy with the flies - we should all be plenty happy.

Especially when the buyer looks in to this conversation.
If he or she does.

" Just once I wish a trout would wink at me. " ~ Brian Shaffer

No, not color blind - I am color stupid.

I would think the seller is also happy. Very happy. :)
