#2Thanks Brian for the link. I hope you get to go. Over 1600 lots all in one long day a very long day. I am thinking about it but with Winter weather and flight logistics and the dreaded virus. I am afraid I may have to cheer from sidlines afar. Though who knows of the thoughts and ways of gallant adventurers ….

#3Sorry to see that Lang's has stopped their auctions online. I imagine that trying to auction so many items in person will result in far fewer bidders will necessarily limit the number of bidders and result in lower prices for a lot of the items.
Re: Feb 4-5th Blanchard's Sportsmen's Auction PDF
#4It was a good auction. Hat tip to all those who attended.
Re: Feb 4-5th Blanchard's Sportsmen's Auction PDF
#5And for anyone curious about the Kosmic it was a refinished 10 footer, AG Spalding. The Parker Hawes was a very short 2-piecer. I did not attend and know nothing else except that they were picked up by two individuals.

#6I got the Parker-Hawes. It's a 6 foot 2/1 rod with all miniaturized components. Not just a "Fairy" rod but actually has a scaled reelseat and grip. There's no reel I've ever seen that would fit this. It has an 8/64 ferrule. The tip is so fine it almost defies belief. It needs a little cleanup and a few guides, tiny reverse twist snakes. The question is whether to just leave it as-is or spruce it up just a little. Amazing little rod!

#8Jeff, yes, pics tomorrow. Red wraps and intermediates, closer to a Payne red than a bright Chinese.

#11Sorry gang! I've been buried in acquisitions and hobbled with an upcoming knee surgery. Here are a few shots for you.
The rod above and below the P-H is a Payne 97, added for scale. Rupert (Headwaters) came over and peeked at the rod yesterday. It just has to be some kind of promo/advertising piece. I've had plenty of fine-tipped rods but this one almost defies belief.
I actually have pretty small hands!

#13Wow. Considering how rare all Hawes rods are, this is a true gem.
Thanks for posting.
What’s the scale weight?

#14Paul, what's that serial number? My eyesight's not good enough to make it out.

#15Thanks for getting that P-H for me, Paul. You can give it to me next time I see you.
Wow, a grip even Marty would find too small!
I was thinking maybe a rod made for a child, but what child wouldn’t break a tip like that.

#16Paul, how long is the reel seat and the grip?
The reel seat of the earliest 6 1/2-foot Orvis Deluxe is obviously longer than it's 4-inch grip. The Parker-Hawes is very well proportioned and you really get a sense of how tiny this rod is in the photo--and how difficult finding a reel to fit would be.
I'm wondering if it would pair with a 2 1/4-inch J. W. Young pattern 1a with a modified reel seat.

#17What a rod!--the tip--I really don't know what to say....
I'm not so sure about the advertising/promotional angle though--advertising rods that got schlepped to sporstman's shows and so on took a real beating--. But who knows? It could have been a way of also showing what tolerances were possible--like like a size 32 Royal Coachman.
Cheers,
bb

#18Here's a shot I forgot to add - with a ruler.
the buttcap is approx. 5/8" diameter. The reelseat from bottom of buttcap to end of mortise is almost exactly 2", the usable length would be somewhat less. The overall length of the grip/reelseat combined is 5 3/4". Weight is 1.1 oz.
The serial # is A78
BB, I hear what you're saying. I was imagining static display in a Parker gunroom window? Or who knows. And yes, it could have been a "this is what I can do" accomplishment. Actually, not could have been, IS!

#19Thanks Paul. That's a tiny reel seat. It reminds me of the one on Lon Teter's Baby Catskill.
