James ( Jim) Beasley - Bamboo Rods

This is the board to ask about the identity, or for an appraisal, of a rod. Please use the outline as explained on the board. If there is a makers name, list that in the subject line. Make sure you include the length, number of sections, any identifying markings and the general condition. Adding photographs is always helpful!

James ( Jim) Beasley - Bamboo Rods

Post by Brooktrout3333 »

I’m lucky enough to have had Jim Beasley make me numerous bamboo rods over a couple of decades. I’m getting a little long in the tooth and may sale a couple of duplicates ( back ups) I have in storage and clueless of the current prices since the passing of my friend, and the best master rod maker in the South. Your help is appreciated.

7ft , 4 weight, Payne 98 taper - Mint ( never fished)- comes with two tips.
8.5 , 5 weight Vintage Orvis taper- Excellent ( fished twice) comes with two tips.

I share your appreciation for Jim's rods, he made some nice ones and was a fishing buddy. Not many of his rods show up for sale so far and pricing is difficult. I bought his personal 50DF from him (the NOT FOR SALE rod) for $600 a year before his death. Other rods he made for me ranged 6~800. In my opinion he never charged anywhere near what they were worth. Current pricing is anyone's guess, but I'd start in the 800.00 range.

That 50 is one sweet casting rod , you’re lucky to have it. Especially being a rod Jim loved and fished with. Anyway I may go ahead and sell the two duplicates I have at you’re suggested price of $800. If you have anybody in mind who would appreciate them let me know . Thanks for your time .

It was only a suggestion, and he was correct to list higher. I'm glad that Laura got it.
