Not all - but some fiberglass rods allow light to penetrate thru :

Fenwick F # 8844 = 1965

I achieved this photo by using a small LED flashlight.

Do you remember the seller on ebay who made a big deal out of Glow Sticks about four years ago? They were Fenwicks like you showed us. He was a heck of a salesman and he hooked people.

The following is still following glow sticks - but not for that money...
and the keen eye knows one without being in the room.

E - electrical glass will glow and S - fiberglass cloth will not
