GRAYROCK 2022

Grayrock 2022
The 2022 gathering is scheduled for 16 - 18 June. The venue will be the Frederic Township Hall, Frederic, Michigan. Absent complications expect to open registration around the first of March.
Frederic has good space for casting, parking, meeting rooms with A/V support, commercial kitchen, and presents as an attractive space for the gathering.
There are couple of Bar/Restaurants, a bakery, Gas station – quick stop, and several cannabis outlets to serve our various and sundry needs. Frederic is two miles off I-75 at 612 exit.
Expect this gathering will be more social than in the past, but if you have suggestions for demos or presentations please get in touch.
We expect a swap meet for Saturday, and the auctions to raise funds will be Friday afternoon. So if you have items to donate for the silent or live auction please bring them along.
Please watch our Web Site (which will be updated soon) our Facebook page, or keep an eye on Classic FlyRod Forum for updates and registration material. Looking forward to getting the gathering up and running again and hope to see you there.

We are moving forward planning for the 2022 gathering and expect to have an excellent few days together.

We are asking for your cooperation to get registrations in by June 4th. This will help us plan for and manage the event. Appreciate your support in this matter.

Meals are coming into focus and it looks like no-one will go away hungry.

Since we have been away for a couple of years we are trying to keep the agenda open to make a lot of time to socialize and cast rods.

What we have for agenda so far:

Dave Jankowski and Rod Jenkins will make an oven on site and enter it into the auction.

Jim Flamming will give us presentation on casting Heddon type reel seats.

Grayson Davis has offered to do a presentation on Engraving reel seat hardware.

Peter Jones will be the auctioneer.

Swap meet Saturday morning

We will catch upon the Cooper, and long award recipients

Please plan on bringing your first cane rod (if you still have it) or one of your first, and a more recent rod we can do a little show and tell Thursday afternoon.

Grayrock Update

We will have the Silent auction and Peter Jones will conduct the live auction. We have some very good items including some excellent contributions from Steve at Classic Sporting Enterprises. Remember the folks who support us.

Don’t forget to bring your donations for the auctions.

Pattie Cattanach passed along a large quantity of Pictures, Posters, Books, and other items for Grayrock and the Trout Fishing Museum in Lovells. Some went to the museum but most will be in the auctions. There are a lot of pictures that go way back. We will have these available to look at and distribute to the folks who are interested.

Thought it would be interesting if we brought along our first rod or and early one if the first one is gone. And follow up with some of your newer work. No judgement just a little trip down memory lane.

There is interest in Heddon rods for this gathering, so if you have Heddon rods please bring them along for show and tell.

Wes Cooper and John Long Awards for 2022 will be presented to Doug Hall and Todd Talsma respectively.

We didn’t get water bottles for this year. There are some from the last gathering, but if you have one from a previous meeting or a favorite bring it along.

Couple of other things that haven’t come into focus. Will Post again when there is more to tell.

If you have questions about directions, or lodging
Please get it touch with a Board Member.

Look forward to seeing everyone again after the COVID break. Please help us by getting your registration in by
First week of June. Txs

Grayrock is less than 2 weeks away. Going to be a good gathering with interesting presentations, and lots of good stuff for the auctions.
Pete Magas passed away last year. If you knew Pete you know he was an extraordinary person and a real gentleman. Sadly he has left us and he will be missed. Pete was a good friend and if you didn’t know him, it is your misfortune. Mike Anderegg will be with us at Grayrock and the Fiberglass Gathering on Sunday to offer Pete’s considerable and impressive Rod and reel collection for sale. Only thing I can say is bring extra money.
Steve Monroe of Classic Sporting Enterprises has contributed ferrules including some Payne and Leonard reproduction step downs. He also included 4 pints of Maple Syrup he boiled off on his mountain top in Vermont. As I said bring extra money.
Richard Alexander from Alexander Reels will be with us. He is a reel maker and Heddon enthusiast. I understand he will have some reproduction Heddon Reels that are quite nice. Ditto on the extra money.
Tom and Alexa from 406 fly lines may be with us to join in the gathering and offer their fly lines for you to purchase.
Patty Cattanach sent us a boat load of Wayne’s Pictures posters and books. Lot of photos of the Trout Bum days. Lot of the stuff will be in the auctions, or put out for interested folks to sort through.
John Long’s Daughter Jen McCurdie will be with us for the John Long Award Presentation and she has some of John’s taper designs and other document he and Bill Warra developed. Good Stuff!
Elden Apling Dropped by the other day and left some nice donations for the auctions.
We didn’t order new water bottles this year. There are some left from the last get together, but as you may remember they were not that great. And being Rat holed in my shed for two years probably has not made them better. BUT – they will be there and you are welcome to take some. However, if you have one from an earlier gathering you may want to bring it along.
Thought it would be interesting to look back at our earlier work, so please bring along your first rod as well as the newer stuff you want to show off.
We are focusing on Heddon rods this year. So if you have some Heddon rods or rods you have made with Heddon tapers please bring them along to share.
Still have seats available so get your registration in as soon as possible.
Karen has done a remarkable job getting good food for the event.
We look forward to seeing you all again.
Due to scheduling we are moving the Awards presentation to later in the morning on Friday.
