Phillopson RWF70c

This is the board to ask about the identity, or for an appraisal, of a rod. Please use the outline as explained on the board. If there is a makers name, list that in the subject line. Make sure you include the length, number of sections, any identifying markings and the general condition. Adding photographs is always helpful!

Phillopson RWF70c

Hey Guys,

I just came across this Phillopson Royal Wand, 7' 6wt in near mint condition. The only defect appears to be a scratch on the bottom of the reel seat from the cap on the rod tube. The first stripper appears gold plated?? and the second stripper is similar to the old foul-proof guides. The tag is still on the rod sock indicating this was built with 3M material. Can anyone date this rod for me and offer an estimate of value?

Thank you.

3M owned Phillipson at that time, the later Epoxite rods and blanks had the 3M logo incorporated

Nice Phillipson glass. Looks to be hardly used.

Royal Wand rods were offered for a very short time from 1969-1971. Fiberglass ferrules were brand new. Gold plated stripping guide. Built with 3M Scotchply glass. (First Epoxite rods appear in 1971 catalog, but not on the Royal Wand.) Then in 1972, 3M purchased Phillipson Rod Co and Bill Phillipson retired.

Fast/crisp dry fly rod. A great find.
