I recently calculated that I am paying myself approximately $9/hour to build bamboo rods when all is said and done. I could be flipping hamburgers for twice that haha.

But, would flipping burgers be half as much fun?

For about 15 years, my “retirement sideline” (I had a “retirement job, also) was building and repairing PCs.

I built over 100 computers, and repaired several times that number.

I calculated that I was making about $2 an hour, but it never bothered me because that $50 was like “found money”. It was nice to have, but I wasn’t raising a family on computer repairs.

Custom computers I did make money on, as with very little reheard, I could match up with botique vendors at a better price point.

My real profession, Software Development, paid quite well.
