#101Welcome to the forum mfrench. I enjoyed your posts - very admirable. You mentioned above that you're a cane rod novice. Well, I can't wait to see where you go with it. I'm guessing you won't be dabbling.

#108I'd love to hear you pick those!
We just lost my favorite slide player, David Lindley. He was amazing, and he backed the best.
Another favorite guitarist is a friend of mine, Walter Trout. He is a very talented blues guitarist, and into guitar driven blues rock tunes.
I better stop. I've spent lots of time among artists, as a recordist (old school two channel stereo specialist), and lover of live music.

#109Yep, Mr. Dave was the best. Last time I saw him was at the Belly Up tavern in Solana Beach, CA, probably five or six years ago. When I looked around the audience, it was mostly older guys (40 and up), and I’d bet most were musicians and guitar players. Kind of like going to see the Dalai Lama, only funnier.

#110I've traveled all over California to catch his gigs. Fortunately, for me, he opened for the Grateful Dead on a number of occasions, and/or, seemed to have a knack for playing gigs in the same town/same time. To me, it was two birds, one stone.

#112I’m an amateur radio operator primarily interested in low power radios using the morse code mode.
Did some watercolor painting in the past too.
I have “collected “ lots of hobbies in the past. Flew radio controlled airplanes, free flight rubber powered models and some others I have forgotten.
Always enjoyed working with my hands on detailed things. That’s why I started making bamboo fly rods.

#113We have an interest in antique hand-colored engravings, chromolithographs & photogravures and have collected them for years. Most are maritime and nature subjects:
From Favorite Flies and Their Histories by Mary Orvis Marbury:
The top print is a hand-colored wood block engraving made in the 1860s for A History of the Fishes of the British Islands by Jonathan Couch. The bottom is a photogravure from the 1st edition of African Game Trails by Theodore Roosevelt:
A hand-colored engraving made in the 1830s by William Homes Lizars of Edinburgh, Scotland:
Sorry for the poor quality of the photos...
