Recommended steelhead taper

The exchange of tapers forum is for classic and personally developed tapers. The definition of classic tapers are those tapers that were developed by rodmakers that are no longer alive. Please understand that rod makers who have developed their tapers, and are active in the community, should not have their tapers cloned, or shared, without their permission, please refrain for asking for those tapers as it infringes on the maker.

Seems to me that an EC Powell, probably C taper, is about the best bamboo steelhead rod you're likely to find. It was designed by and for steelheaders in steelhead country, tailored to the tastes of some of the finest and most discerning casters of the time - the tournament casters at the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club - and with its hollowbuilt construction was light in weight and highly responsive with its hollowed tips. Powells and Winstons were the rods of choice for distance casting and steehead fishing on the west coast, were developed for high performance in tournament distance casting and used in demanding fishing conditions on big rivers. They are still around and come up for sale, and current makers have also adopted and refined EC Powell's hollowbuilding tapers and techniques.
