Sanibel Island FL guide intel

Post by McHull »

Guys,
I'll be on Sanibel in mid April. I'm looking to fish the backwater flats/mangroves from a skiff.
Anybody recommend a guide??

Thanks
Matt

https://icdfish.com Connor McNichols fishes Naples bay/backwaters/ Rookery Bay/ Everglades. Young guy, knows his stuff. Fished many many times with him. His Dad is a legend but isn’t guiding much anymore.

https://www.mangroveoutfitters.com has several guides as well, both Tom (not sure how much he guides anymore) and Patrick are great too.

They all trailer their boats so they may (or may not) come to Sanibel.

Try calling them, if they won’t come to Sanibel they may recommend someone more local to Sanibel.

Fish
Thanks so much for providing the first hand experience guide advice.

I’ll give them a call and hopefully they won’t be booked already.

Cheers
Matt

I hired Joe for 6 hours one day this January. He lives and has his boat in Matlacha. He’s a well known and respected guide in the area. Has a skiff and specializes in taking fly fishermen out. Good guy — provides leaders and flies etc. It was cold the day we went out — saw some tailing redfish but didn’t hook up. It’s a one man operation — easy going laidback … I’d hire him again

I was on Sanibel in February and talked to Whitney Jones, the owner of Whitneys Bait and tackle. He said that he had bought Norm's place and was going to move his fly fishing operation there. It's called Sanibel Fly Outfitters.
