Hardy Lightweight series with an agate guide?

#1

Post by ibookje »

I recently saw a Hardy LRH for sale that comes with a round agate(?) guide.
I asked the seller to send me some pictures of the guide as I thought it might be a 'home made' add on.
It looks like a factory accessory to me.
Anyone else seen such a reel of the Lightweight series?

To me it looks like the agate's bezel has been brazed onto a standard 2 screw line guard. At least in the photos it looks like this results in a somewhat lower position of the agate than typical. But I could be completely wrong on both counts!

Either way, if you wanted an agate on a LRH, that's a pretty clean and reversible (if you had another line guide) way to do it.

Never seen one. Seems like a nicely-done customization. I’d be a little concerned of the line getting hung up on the round guard, w/o it set into the rim to be more flush (see third picture).

Interesting but based on the 3rd pic line being stripped out of that reel, when mounted to a rod, would take a wicked angle (almost 90 degrees). Can't envision that as factory from Hardy.

Clearly homemade on a 1960 th. Hardy LRH Lightweight, if Hardy had made it in the factory it would have been made in a more excellent /perfect way. Fun to see.

here are my different lineguards : viewtopic.php?t=87184

It is fun to find these, with no line guard, 4 pillars and the bizarre half ribbed foot :
