$2,300 Peerless 7?
#1Okay, I have to be missing something. Last night I watched a Peerless 7 in what I would describe as gently used condition, sell for $2,100 + 10% buyer's premium, so $2,310. I have a 1.5A, and it's a nice reel, but $2,300 for a 7? I know they didn't make many, but the last couple I saw sell went for well under $1K. Am I that far out of touch?

#2Hello, I just saw a Peerless on social media from a dealer priced at $750. Not sure the model, but it was up to 4 wt lines.
I am not expert, but the few I have seen in the last couple of years were South of $1,000 as you stated.

#3Don't know where this reel was sold at but I've never seen a price anywhere that high, even for the Peerless prototypes that sold a few years ago. I own a Peerless 7 and corresponded with Bob about it. During that exchange he told me there were 140 reels made. I've looked for one for some time, as I would like to someday own a second but have rarely seen any for sale.

#4This one was sold on HiBid. Two bidders got in a bidding war starting with a minute to go...it was nuts to watch!SpringCreek wrote: ↑04/30/22 19:50Don't know where this reel was sold at but I've never seen a price anywhere that high, even for the Peerless prototypes that sold a few years ago. #6You are not out of touch at all. I bought one two years ago on the forum for $700. The seller didn’t accurately describe the condition but I kept it because they are pretty rare. The few I’ve seen come up for sale have all been around $750. I think that’s about right, maybe a bit more for somebody who really wants one, but $2,300 is nuts.

#8Was it a charitable auction by any chance? Sometimes superfans will bid very high for sport and bragging rights while helping out their fave org.
Re: $2,300 Peerless 7?
#9No, it was a normal estate auction and two guys clearly got into a bidding war. One guy was trying to snipe the reel at the last second, but there was a soft close so each time he did that it bumped the clock by a couple of minutes and the other guy would increase his bid by a few hundred dollars (he ultimately won).
Re: $2,300 Peerless 7?
#10$2300.00 is not nuts if you want the reel bad enough. Peerless reels are no longer made. I sold a 2A a while back because I didn't use it anymore. The 2A is not as desirable as the raised pillar 7 but it did hold its value and there is a market for it. It sold pretty fast.

#11I have been collecting vintage reels for over 30 years and nothing surprises me any more. It’s all a matter of where you want to allocate your discretionary income. When you go back to your $800 a night fly fishing lodge after a day of guided casting and the guy next to you asks, “What reel did you fish with today?” it may be worth a few grand to some guys to be able to reply, “A Peerless No.7.” I’ve seen it with shotguns and upland bird hunting,

#13Regarding the ridiculous price paid for the 7, for those with more money than brains I suppose it’s not nuts. For the rest of us, it would be easier and far less of a hassle to shove $1,500 into a paper shredder.PYochim wrote: ↑05/02/22 08:51$2300.00 is not nuts if you want the reel bad enough. #14I’ve got one in very, very good condition save a couple of sliding band marks on the foot that I’d let go for half that if anyones interested!
Re: $2,300 Peerless 7?
#15The asking price on your reel just increased, thanks to the guy who paid $2300 for one.
Why is that those willing to pay top dollar for a piece of gear are sarcastically described as having more money than brains?
Price is what you pay, value is what you get.
Re: $2,300 Peerless 7?
#16I've heard that the buyer is keeping the South Bend reel and selling the Peerless for $299. Shipping to CONUS included.
It's a bad joke, relax!

Re: $2,300 Peerless 7?
#17Not worth it. Not to mention the Peerless finish is not as good as Saracione, and for a used Saracione, I'd only pay less than $1000. ( I got my Mark IV 4in for ~$800 2 years ago)
There was a Peerless 6 I was watching last week, very mint, with original box, pouch, paper work, and an additional leather reel case. Auction ended in $400USD and only 1 bid. I was tempted to place a bid, but considered the build is not as good as the Saracione I have, not to mention my Bogdan. I'd just pass.
$2,300? What a joke. For that $$ I'd get a Bogdan or Vom Hofe.

Re: $2,300 Peerless 7?
#18The 7 is a relatively scarce raised pillar Peerless, seen much less frequently than the smaller 7M and the little 77. I find the 7M to be the perfect, light 4 wt reel with backing, that can fit a 5 with minimal backing. ive Never put a line on the 7, but if I needed a light 6 wt reel, it might work. Its always felt “big” to me. I’d say 1250 would be a more customary strong sale price for a 7 in Exc condition.
Re: $2,300 Peerless 7?
#19Maybe the bidders thought it was a crazy rare raised pillar EVH Peerless ?
