My father and I had always talked about a 'vintage' trip. Vintage meaning: Period gear, jackets and ties, a stream side brook trout breakfast on folding wooden furniture and a bolt of whiskey to finish. My father was old world, top to bottom. Alzheimer's had different plans for him but I'm committed to the experience.
My questions is this: Does this UH Sunnybrook reel have any business being on this unknowable HI rod? The rod came from an auction in Steep Falls, Maine. The reel from Brimfield. I think they look swell together but I'm a visual guy, not an historian. I'm planning on using that old braided line, too. One trout to the net and it'll be mission accomplished.
If you think the kit passes muster, let me know...

#3Absolutely lovely and loving palette. A very moving testament he would undoubtedly approve. Go get one.
And thanks for sharing this.

Re: Memorial
#8I think it's perfect, and a fine tribute to your father.
I spent most of my money on shotguns, fly rods, guitars and banjos. The rest I just wasted. (Apologies to W.C. Fields)

#9Thank you for the kind words. We're making plans now. If nothing else it'll be a hoot. My father would not have wanted anything less...
