Post by abingram »

I saw that there is a new Imperial 125 fly reel being made and wonder where I can check out where to find the sizes and how much they cost. Thanks for any help, Barry

It is a sweet reel. I finally took mine out today. Truly impressed. The sound is as good as it gets.

What beautiful work - complementary in every way.

Soon I will hear the purr on my very own.

I need another reel like a hole in my head, but this one is sorely tempting...

Does this reel have the same sound as the original?

One of nicest sounding reels ever in my opinion.

Hey Barry
They sound very close to the original. Especially the first generation Heddons. The later Heddons may be a tad louder. If you like the sound of the original Heddons I believe you would be very happy.

I understand that these replica reels are about 1/4” less in diameter compared to the originals? Does that mean they are slightly wider to handle the same line capacity?

Are they intended for DT5/DT6 lines like the original design?

Also: anyone know the un-lined weight of these? Not listed on the website.

Thanks!

Corley, you are correct the reel is 3" in dia. And is the same width as the originals. Weighing in at 5.3 oz. Unlined and takes 30 yds backing with a DT 6.
Send me a pm if you would like more info.

A lovely reproduction of a classic that would suit our May and October run of sea run Brook trout.Who is the manufacturer and where are they made?

These reels really are impressive. I saw them at Grayrock and they've been on my mind ever since. I think one will be in my arsenal before long.

Richard:

My results were different. I found that the reel will hold a DT6 silk or a WF6 444 Peach fine, but with minimal backing a full 444 Peach DT6 rubs. If you never intend to fish the inner side of the DT6, then nip some off and don't worry about it. But, if you are a flipper AND use Cortland Peach 444, you will be disappointed unless you are very meticulous about winding on your line, which is distracting while on the water and challenging even while just adding the line to the reel.

The sound of these is awesome and the winding is super smooth and they balance 7 1/2' 3-piece or 8' 2-piece rods perfectly and don't seem too light for an 8 1/2' rod. Richard did a great job in providing us LHW guys with a good size reel and agate.

Cheers,
Joe
