Rant: Scammers

#1

Post by Doublegun »

Earlier this year I posted a WTB for a particular Hardy reel and I fell for the "I have a buddy who has one...here is his e-mail address" scams. It was only then that I saw the warning Bassman posted at the top of the Classified page. I'm a reasonably smart guy and even though I got a bad vibe after an e-mail exchange with his "buddy", I sent the money via Zelle. (Using Zelle: that's another story).

A couple of days ago I posted another WTB and guess what... I received four "I have a buddy who has one..." PM's, including one from the POS who scammed me earlier this year.

I'm not blaming anyone related to the Forum, and a warning was there had I been paying attention, but I am really surprised how many scammers there are trying to make a quick $100 or two (or three). I have been thinking maybe I'll take his "buddys" e-mail address and register at every porn site, political site, charity site I can find, but I imagine that they delete e-mail accounts as soon as $$ is in the bank.

Anyway, rant done....
