T&T history

#1

Post by PAGH »

Hi All,

Does anyone know where to find accurate information on vintage T&T rods? Serial number log, etc.

The website has no such information and I have not called the company yet.

Thank you in advance to all replies!

I don't believe a list of T&T models and serial numbers exists that's available to the public.

Developing a record of T&T models would be a nice project for someone. The catalogs are fairly available.

If you contact T&T about a specific rod, they will check the records they have for you. Give them the serial number, etc. The records are not complete with sone from their early years missing. I surmise that when Tom Maxwell left the firm, some of the early records were in his possession, though I do not know that for a fact.

They began in 1969 with serial number 2000 as I understand.

If you have vintage T&T rods, by all means enjoy them! They are wonderful casting and fishing rods!

Definitely worth calling T&T to see if they have a ledger entry for the rod in question. They are happy to help with older rods.

To add to Caneghost's reply, my understanding is that the T&T ledger prior to serial #2900 has been lost, and #2900 was built in 1977. Certainly worth double checking with Thomas & Thomas, but that's what I have in my notes.

After the split up, I think Tom Maxwell ended up with the lower serial number ledger. Since his passing, it's somewhere ?

As a belated followup, Tom Dorsey has been working on a book about the history of Thomas and Thomas. When checking with the company earlier this year, I asked as to the status, and was told that his work is progressing. Hopefully we will all see it in print before too long!

Freestone's notes may be correct, as I have a rod considerably earlier than 2900 that is not in the available T&T ledger and one from 1977 that is just a few numbers higher that is there.
