100 year old HL Leonard
#1Goes to the western mountains...
Still relevant after all these years. 9 ft 3 piece for a 5 wt. I used a peach 444 Wf.
Restored by Joe Balestrieri... baptized at 8000 feet on a meadow stream. Enjoy the pics! She fished like a dream! Once a fish was hooked, the soft action did all the work! Paired with a late 1920s rare agate up Hardy perfect reel.

#2That is the best thing I have seen in a while; two (maybe 3 ) geriatrics having fun fishing on a beautiful stream for beautiful fish.
Cheers,
Mark

#3Thank you mrampant! This was a ball! Landed like 30 fish of the 8 to 12 inch range including one cutt that I caught on a tributary to that creek. The creek was 2 feet wide... I walked up 50 yards, made a single cast, and caught a fish on top of the earth... stream so small (the tributary) that I doubt anyone ever went there... except the old H.L. Leonard

#6You certainly treated your Leonard to a beautiful “Welcome Back” stream. Glad you were able to have tight lines. From the looks of the water I would be in great shape eventually, being drawn up to that 8000’ meadow.

#7Thanks guys! Just thinking that a tool from 100 years ago is still able to work, and work as well or better than anything today is enlightening for sure! I already knew it... but the proof is in the awakenings...

Nice job of you and Joe keeping that beautiful old pair on the stream! And, thanks for sharing the wonderful photos of your trip with us!

#9Well done! I have fished a number of centenarians (rods as well as reels) and believe the makers would be happy to know how well their work has held up.

#10That is truly amazing. Few objects remain as functional as an old bamboo fly rod. I sense your pride and satisfaction with the rod, and the joy it provides to the owner.

#11Looks like a great time. My dad used to say" there's more to fishing than catching fish"

#13I got a chance to cast this rod and reel at the Northern Rodmakers Gathering last weekend. Thank you Erik. It was a treat!
