As much cane as they had to choose from, and as many rods as they built, I have no doubt that Montague could have produced a mighty fine rod if they chose to. I handled a lot of cane when I was restoring rods and selling them, and more than one of the Montagues fished pretty darned well, not always just the higher-end stuff.
