Butt end replacement for Orvis rod

#1

Post by Parky1968 »

I have an Orvis impregnated split cane 8ft 6" single hand Salmon rod, serial number 51293 of which I have lost the butt end.

Would anyone have any idea how/where I can locate a replacement/parts?

As Orvis wanted me to send the rod to them to fit, but I would rather sort it myself?

I would be grateful for any ideas

Your best bet is to send it back to Orvis and see what they can do. Most people with the butt half of the rod are either going to send it back to Orvis for a new tip, or find a rod maker who will do the same, although probably not with an impregnated tip.

From time to time rod parts show up on eBay...that's probably the only reasonable option, but it's likely got to take a long time.

Are you talking about just the butt cap? Or perhaps a removable fighting butt? Depending on what it looked like, that might be fairly easy for someone to make or replace. Can you post some pics of the rod and someone here would likely be able to help.

I think I misread the original post since it seems unlikely someone would lose half of the rod! So likely we're talking about the butt extension, right?

Hey there - sounds like a fine rod.., but needs that piece to be complete.
I would suggest to use someone who has done this before, be it Orvis or getting connected with someone here.
That individual rod restorer will need to have each piece to work with for proper complete fit.

The decision to use Orvis keeps much more of the potential value in the rod.
If you wish to do the work yourself - perhaps no one could tell the difference.
Maybe we get to see the before and after here. Very cool.
