Wooden Net Makers

or however that dang word is written! : ) Use this forum to discuss those things that are related to, directly, or indirectly, fly fishing, i.e., tackle, catalogs, single malt scotch, cigar preferences, pipes, camera gear, etc. This is sort of an off topic area but one related to bamboo and fly fishing.

Anyone of you woodworkers make nets?
Or know of someone.

Thanks

I made this one with some 100+ year old bamboo, cedar and hemlock....thinking of making a “user” boat net next.

Dave Griffith (coltercreeknets.com) makes a beautiful wood net with a scale built into the handle. Many guides in New Zealand use nets with built-in scales, but they’re otherwise not very nice nets. Dave’s are gorgeous.

My problem is that I don’t catch a whole lot of fish big enough to bother weighing, and when I do catch a hog I’m usually with a guide who uses his own long-handled net.

I've made a couple. Ash and walnut strips - steambent; padouk handle. Getting a decent net bag is actually more of a problem than making the frame ;-)

Not only an exquisite net maker but just about anything made from wood. I have seen his artistry at his daughter's restaurant, superb.

I have three of Snake River nets, beautiful workmanship in the wood. They have a large selection of woods available and they are the only company, that I know of, that offer measure nets.
