Burglary

or however that dang word is written! : ) Use this forum to discuss those things that are related to, directly, or indirectly, fly fishing, i.e., tackle, catalogs, single malt scotch, cigar preferences, pipes, camera gear, etc. This is sort of an off topic area but one related to bamboo and fly fishing.

Yep that's what I said. This morning at approximately Dette Flies in Livingston Manor, NY was hit and about $3000.00 of reels were stolen from a locked glass display case. Hardy, Able reels were taken, so if you happen upon a great deal please notify the store. Getting hit at especially .this time of year cuts into everyone's profit margin

ebay, Craig's list, Etsy, and sadly some of the fly fishing forums and Facebook pages. They will show up and how soon is probably dependent on how much of their drug use stash is left.

Similar theft in a Seattle area fly shop about a month ago. Word must be out that the products have high retail and are easy to move. I don't know why modern manufacturers can't add a serial number to their products for unique identification.

Unfortunately I think you are right. Fly reels are easily sold on eBay and without anything to identify them (i.e. serial numbers) they would be impossible to identify. I hope this doesn't become a trend as I would hate to see businesses that can't afford to absorb the loss have to do so.

They haven't mentioned anything about the burglary.

It reeks of stupidity.

What will $3k in reels bring, $1000?

Not worth the jail time.

Ha!

When my two Twin Bridges RLW rods, my PHY Para 15, my Orvis kit rod bought as an 11 year old, my two matching T&T Henry Fork with sequential serial numbers and several graphite rods, along with a CFO for every rod above with two spools each with high quality lines on each spool and in the Orvis rod bag and rod case carrier was stolen the county Sheriff department Sargent told me...will bring 10 cents on the fair market value and will be used to buy raw materials for drugs or...pay an imminent overdue drug bill to the pusher. If they buy raw materials they can make and sell enough drugs to match your gear's total value in one month. We can't outrun them. He also said...it was someone you know or knew of you and that you had them. They were never caught.

This is one reason that now days...I am Blue Collar user.

I can think of all kinds of Gaelic to use to describe activities and perpetrators such as this. But...
