#42That's great Hal, and what a great resource to have virtually in your backyard !
And speaking of various permits and passes, this showed up in my mailbox today:
It's the formal Notice from NPS about the need for a day-use parking pass at Metcalf Bottoms.
$5/day, $15/week and $40/year, although this seems to imply that the 'parking season'
runs from 01March to the end of July . . . Stay tuned

#44The lady at the visitor center said they were good for a year from purchase. They punch a little hole in the month you buy it like car inspection stickers and such.

#46Hey Everyone. This is Joe Lock. I hope some of you will remember me (being the shortest member of the Bash I am somewhat hard to forget). I have been out of the loop for a couple of years now. When covid hit, I lost interest in fishing and fly rods as I just did not want to be around people, even in the park (I live in Townsend, BTW). Anyway, after a long absence I thought I would get back into fly fishing. Now at 72 (an old fart) my balance is not so good and I walk very slow; I can no longer wade so I have to go to fishing spots that are easily accessible; not always the most productive spots but I have noticed that many folks will pass up those spots thinking that they get over fished. I have found these places to still hold fish.
About the National Park parking pass requirement, if you have a disabled parking plate or placard, you are not required to purchase a parking pass. I hope to attend some of the Bash so will see you then.
Regards,
Joe & Anna

#47Hi Joe !
Glad to hear from you. C19 stole the wind from a lot of sails the past couple seasons,
but hopefully that sense of dread is behind us. It will be good to see you and your wife
(I hope) back on the Casting Lawn.
And THANKS for the parking update; I’m sure this new rule twist will have several more
kinks to reveal to us yet !!
See you in April !!

#48I am attempting to finalize my arrangements to attend the BambooBash (1st time). Before I leave Wyoming I wanted to know if registration was required to attend and/or any other requirements to attend?
Thank you in advance for your consideration of this request.
Sincerely,
Marty LaBrusciano

#51Good Morning All,
Given that we have many coming in from distant locations, some may be planning on flying into Knoxville. Currently rental car rates are absolutely ridiculous and I would like to suggest that anyone requiring transportation to and from the airport post here or PM a known attendee and we'll try to assist. Many of us plan to arrive early in the week, so that may not be a problem.

#52That is a good point Ralph. Rental car business has been screwy ever since covid hit.
But on a better note, we are ONE month away.
Things are starting to green up a bit in Missouri. I suspect things are a little farther along in Tennessee.

#53Fishing has been good down here on my local waters ( N.E.GA) and the reports from the park have been good.
Re: ***_BambooBash23 Central_*** April 20 - 22
#54And, of course, you know exactly where to go...right? Really looking forward to seeing your face! Whe are you planning to arrive?

#56This is going to be an extra fun year at the bash. We will have some new rod makers with wonderful casting nontraditional rods! Bob Hallowell will be bringing his wonderful bamboo rods which feature his unique fiberglass ferrules. Also, just added to the list of attendees, Rob Smith will be bringing his 5-sided Pentelux rods to try out. Rob will also have books on Robert Crompton an amazing and historical figure in the bamboo rod making world. I know Kentucky Jim and I will also have plenty of rods for casting as well! see you all soon.

#57Could not agree more Munsey that this will be an extra fun year at the Bash! Getting to cast such an amazing collection of rods and getting to "hang-out" with everyone is my Christmas

#60I’ve heard from a reliable source that
Hal Hanley will be bringing his build from the Bill Oyster class as well. It’s shaping up to be the best Bash ever.
A bonus for all is a chance to fish and enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet. Can’t wait!
