I am rebuilding a South Bend Model 346 were both tips are broken off. I have checked the line weight will be low 7. I am going to update this rod to 10 guides. On the Clemens Formula the Stripping guide is the Index guide and on the Cattanch it is at guide 8. any thoughts on witch placement would work best? total length of the rod is 104" and from grip to tip is 94.5"
Thanks for any input.

I usually use 28 to 30inches from the bottom of the butt cap to place the stripping guide. When I plugged your number of guides and indexed off the stripping guide at 28 inches I got:

This avoids the ferrules and places the top guide about where you want it.

I think placement should be determined by your reach.
How far you "reach" to grasp the line to retrieve or manage the line.
You should do the rebuild to suit your style of fishing, unless you plan to sell.
