The probably has lead paint, use caution. When I refinish a reel I use Brownell's Alumnahyd (sic).

You could consider using touch-up paint from an auto shop.

Hi Guys, I've used black 'heat paint', stove black. It seems to leave a film that I wipe off and leaves a nice look.
