Heddon fly rod model and age?

This is the board to ask about the identity, or for an appraisal, of a rod. Please use the outline as explained on the board. If there is a makers name, list that in the subject line. Make sure you include the length, number of sections, any identifying markings and the general condition. Adding photographs is always helpful!

Heddon fly rod model and age?

#1

Post by Ray Hencken »

I acquired a project rod 3/2 . Butt 38 3/4", mid 37 3/4", one tip 39 1/8", 2nd tip 34". There are no markings on the rod other than the bottom of the nickle silver reel seat cap which is stamped Heddon. The reel seat is a cap and ring with a wood (walnut?) insert. Ferrules are nickle silver, measure .340 and .218, and "pop" when separated. Only the tip tops and a couple of snake guides are present. I believe that it is a 9 1/2' rod.
Any ideas as to model or age? Pictures attached.

My thoughts are first era #13, 1930_1931 ish.
I realize that some of these #13s have red wraps with green tipping. Also, the original first models did not have a hook keep if I remember right. This rod has been refinished. Maybe this will help.
