Loss of automatic notifications

Four days ago I stopped receiving e mail notifications, for example Someone replies to a topic you have bookmarked and Someone replies to a topic to which you are subscribed.

I have checked that my settings are correct and I have also tried un-setting and re-setting these in "Edit notification options" in my user control panel, without success.

Please can anyone help.
