As always, I'm years behind in my reading. But I'm always ready to report on a good read anyway. Recently I plowed through "The Stream" by Brian Clarke. Published by Overlook Press in the USA in 2004. This novel is at first a bit left of center as far as trout fishing books go. But as one travels further through it, you'll find that Clarke has a whimsically delightful way of describing his thoughts with a basic proletarian vocabulary. The chapter on the metamorphosis of the mayfly is wonderfully entertaining. Splendid I thought. How a writer can keep one entertained with few words with more than three syllables is, well, eye opening. A wordsmith for sure. I truly enjoyed this read and found it a true diversion from the ocean of trout fishing books out there. Give it a try. Enjoy!
