#2Oh that is aweful! So many folks that live in Idaho and work in Jackson will now be out of work. Then the businesses in Jackson will suffer from lack of help. Terrible news for those folks down there.

Re: Teton Pass Slide
#3Yup. No fun!
I'm guiding the area and could not afford the Jackson side. There is another pass, but it will be doubly crowded and it's already the longer route. Might keep some Jackson guides off the Hank though.
I'm currently calling in all favors to get housing on the wyoming side.

#4My brother is going to have a lot of traffic to deal with where he lives (Alpine, WY) until they get that cleared and the road repaired. He's had to do the reverse commute to his work in Jackson when the canyon road (89) would be shut down from avalanches and mudslides.
Re: Teton Pass Slide
#5All the worker bees live on the Idaho side of the pass. I guess it’s going to be “cook your own steak” at the Cowboy Bar!

#7Matt, that is a brutal commute. Seems like it would behoove all the businesses in Jackson to pitch in for regularly scheduled bus commutes. Won’t help the guides with boats in tow though.

#9As you look at the drone footage, makes you wonder how they'll repair it--there looks to be no land left for a road! I know there are engineering miracles, but..........

#10Hi Guys, I looked in vain for some record of a slide on Wyoming highway 70 Riverside to Baggs, but I know it happened and the road was totally gone. We were doing hazardous tree removal on Battle Pass at the time, so of course, we went to see the wreck. It looked very much like this slide, but the road was not on a fill. The solution was 'quick and easy', they moved the road to the north. It was done during that summer. In searching for a record of the slide I found a very interesting site:
https://www.geowyo.com/battle-pass-bywa ... ay-70.html
I guess the road to Baggs, Wy isn't so important, but it is really interesting! The Baggs slide may be in the site, but there is really alot there, so....... I think the slide would have been at approximately 'Aspen Valley', but.......
Well duh, here's the slide information right where it ought to be:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyoming_H ... onstructed.
Oh, and there's a famous bamboo rod on the site too.

#11Hope you find something, Matt. We visited Jackson for first time last year and took this road over into Idaho. Beautiful scenery and as noted above, not sure how they can relocate / move this roadbed. Looks like a LOT of carving into the hillside will be required. Lots of time and money and aggavation for those folks who used this road daily.MattZilliox wrote: ↑06/10/24 07:52Yup. No fun!

#13Interesting. I was watching a show on YouTube last night about the high concentration of billionaires now living in Jackson Hole. Evidently it's the highest in this country (& perhaps the world?). I'm guessing that they'll find somebody to grill their steaks and that this road problem will be tackled with an unusual frenzy.
Re: Teton Pass Slide
#14It’s not that big of a deal on the engineering side. Shore up the toe and a big retaining wall. The main issue is bringing in all the dirt and materials. That takes time. It’s a big project but it will get done.
Re: Teton Pass Slide
#16The detour is in place and people are already complaining about the drivers : ).....

Re: Teton Pass Slide
#19I sure hope that works but call me a bit skeptical. How are they going to retain all of that new fill dirt?
