#161I have that reel displayed in similar fashion - with other vintage LL Bean stuff. I don't know if Beans still offers the service but at one time you could contact them looking for info on their vintage gear. They helped me with the provenance of a notable silver whiskey flask (might be the nicest thing I own), dating some vintage wool clothing, old canvas upland vests, etc. They couldn't offer much on the reel. I realize it isn't worth its weight in postage but stories are good.

ct white, I think that reel is a Bristol from Bristol rod and reel co. In Conn. It's worth $10. if you can find someone to buy it. If you have questions on rods and reels, take a picture and post it on this board. You will probably find out more than you want to know.

#164When the line and backing are the wrong way round it is useful to have a second winder.

#165Hardy Line Winders were as skillfully crafted as their other functional angling accessories. Proper line care determines your casting and angling performance and proper cleaning and treating of modern and silk lines is easily done with their convenience. These vintage winders are functional and will also serve to elegantly display a lovely reel.

#167I remembered that I had these as I was seeing responses to my complaints about Gink solidifying. I pulled the DryFly Oil out of my garage and it was still near a liquid state so I may have to start carrying this until I pick up some Loon flotant. The Twistons are quite cool. It’s like a pack of paper matches, only each match is a strip of lead. I’ve seen these private labeled for LL Bean, but this pack is not private labeled.

#168These posters , that became known as "Gee Mister" posters, are often given credit for being older than they really are.. These posters were distributed to Maine sporting camps by "The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Game" (Now called The Maine Department of Fish and Wildlife), in the late 60s (or so) . They were one of the first attempts to promote catch and release in the state of Maine. In the lower right hand corner are the artists initials KAB. The state commissioned artist Kleir Beck to do this poster and several hunting safety posters. The original 1960s posters are 29"x22" and are on a thick cardboard type stock. In the 90s the state issued a copy of this poster. It is easy to tell the difference. The new posters are approximately 17"x14" and are on paper stock. The originals are (were) selling in the $300. range. The copies, maybe $5. Don't get duped!
I found some of Kleir Beck's knockoff Hunting safety posters. They are 17"x14" so I suspect the knockoff "Gee Mister" fishing posters are the same. All Knockoffs on paper stock.

#180I’ve been avidly collecting vintage fishing tackle for 35 years, but I always see something I’ve never seen before when Dean posts a photo of one of his display cases. He has the best eye in the hobby.
