On a rod I just received yesterday. This one was the 2nd worst packaging I have seen. A Leonard Mills Sole Agent 3 pc rod held together by 2 zip ties without any bubble wrap or packing material, except a bit at the bottom and top of the cardboard tube. The good news is no broken sections, the bad news is several guides and wraps came off on a hundred plus year old rod. I even asked them to pack it well.
It just never ends...

#2Bummer. That's no way to treat a rod of that caliber. You can't fix stoopid!

#3Just curious but by chance was it from a recent auction? I dont mean the auction site but an auction house.
A friend won rod from auction house and sent in cardboard tube longer than the rod with no rod tube and it came with cardboard tube and rod pieces broken.

#4From the auction site. Worst packaging was all 4 sections in a metal tube loose. Got lucky again with no broken sections. You just never know.....

#5No matter who I am dealing with when the shipping of an item of any value is involved, I make dead sure that the sender is aware of what my expectation for packaging the item is to be, level of insurance and expected delivery date, and have them acknowledge recognition of this. At that time if they wish additional compensation to meet my level we can adjust the cost.
Certainly in today's world why would one run the risk on having a valued item incorrectly shipped without such confirmed specificity is a haphazard way of operating? To make complaint that some one unknown to you, therefore whose abilities are unrecognized, that they failed to meet your expectations for service without you conveying those expectations is an interesting way of thinking.

#6I bought a vintage Fenwick glass rod (for rookies and as a backup) and it arrived in a triangular tube that was in three pieces. Rod was fine but seller just put it in the box with no protection.

#7Here are photos of the packaging used when buying a rod from a "member" (and yes, he still sells here) of this forum. As with Carl, I laid out how I needed the rod packaged, and he assured me he understood and stated he "knew what he was doing." Not so much!
He shipped the rod to me in rain spout tubing, yes, rain spout tubing. When I opened everything up, the stripper had popped the wraps, and two of the guides were crushed. This happens due to compression when the package is dropped, and there is insufficient material to "suspend" the rod in the shipping tube so that it slaps around side to side and end to end. When I spoke with the seller, he told me I had intentionally damaged the rod as a result of "buyer remorse." When I reminded him that there is a 3-day inspection period and the right to return the rod for whatever reason, curiously, he wouldn't talk to me anymore and blocked me on the messaging platforms.

#8maybe we should know who it is so we can avoid having fly rods shipped to us using gutter parts?
