I have seen that "Hardy's Patent 24245" stamp, you are refferring to, on a number of early duplicated reels. Its stamped on the check side of the frame.
But the numbers I believe are serial numbers are stamped on the winding plate on the early 1905 reels but on later reels they moved that serial numbers to the spool side of the frame.
Because its much better to stamp inside the frame than possibly damaging the face of the winding plate..
Not a mystery if you ask me..

#62Here's an example of an early dup mark 2 with the "hardys pat. no 24245" stamp. It's clearly done with one single stamp. Not made by punching individual numbers as in the serialnumber's we see in the earlier reels.
