Hi Guys, In 65-66 they have been the rods on the left in the San Francisco shop.

Appreciate the images of the early 1970's catalog pages. Does anyone have an image of a catalog page or similar literature from the mid 1960's to describe the rods at that point other than the comment about shop placement in 65-66 shown above?

That catalog I indicate from early 70s could date back to mid 60s. Unlike later days when the catalog was new every year, sometimes the same one was used for 5 years? Maybe even 8?
Wasn’t there supposed to be A Winston rod history book due out?

I have been casting my Leetle Feller, 1958 model with an extra tip built by Glenn Brackett. It is a wonderful rod with a DT 3 Sylk or a DT 3 Phoenix Silk. It casts truer, and farther than either of my other 3 weights, which are both slower rods. Great taper!! Jed

Ibookje, sorry I am looking at your request for a photo of my LF 2 1/2 months later. I will post some photos when I get home. Again, sorry for the delayed response. Jed

My dream rod... is what they are.

I purchased my LF on the national auction site about 6 years ago. The name of the man who Winston made the rod for is on this rod. I did not show it in my pictures. At the same time, another bamboo spin rod Winston made for the same man, was also for sale. I thought about keeping the pair together. Since I do not use spin rods I decided it was not a good investment to keep the two rods together.

This LF has about 40% of the tube label intact and the label on the sock is intact. Both indicate San Francisco manufacture. It is a 2/1 rod.

I paired this rod with a featherweight reel. When casting the rod is virtually weightless. However, this is an unforgiving rod. Use a poor casting stroke and the rod will not help you correct your errors. I have not weighed this rod personally.

I also own a 5'6" Winston bamboo rod with 1 3/4 oz written on it. But it is finished as a contemporary Winston rod with a figured wood spacer for the reel seat and nickel silver sliding band and end cap. I weighed it once at 2.3 ounces.

Does anyone know how to interpret the production numbers on the Winston rods?? Mine has the #8245. The person I bought it from said it was made in 1958, but how do these numbers work??? Thanks, Jed

Dating a Winston bamboo rod by serial number is easy: just call the company. I have a list of a few hundred and can get close for you, just PM.
