Love the ferrule plugs from cutoffs. I have a pile of cutoffs I will now have to repurpose.

I just made two, a Paul Young Perfectionist for my son and a Drigg's River for myself. I'm an absolute beginner at this and I'm relatively pleased. No varnish yet, but they are otherwise complete.

Also just finished a Dickerson 8013 for my older son and built an extra tip for a Sir D that I built last year (which will be given to my brother as a Christmas gift). I can definitely see why some people just keep building and trying new tapers constantly. Lots of fun.

Well here is my first attempt at building a bamboo fly rod! I am happy with how it turned out and it will be going to my dad for his Christmas gift. It is a 7’6 4wt based on a Taper from Wayne Cattanach’s book. It casts so nice that I am going to build an identical rod for myself! I used to wonder why bamboo rods were so expensive but after building one myself and seeing the work that goes into them, I now completely understand the high costs!

I want to thank all of you for providing tips and tricks to shorten the learning curve as I don’t personally know anyone that fishes bamboo or builds them. Most of my learning has come from this forum and Wayne’s book. Still have to polish out a few dust nibs but here it is!

hi, thanks

yes I built my oven to 2m length. I also heatcured the Uhu at about 120degC

Its a perfect workflow, glue, cure and 10 min later you can clean the blank

cheeres Alex

Made my first quad. Turned out quite nice. A hollow built 2piece 8'3" 4wt with a carbon fiber ferrule and a flame Koa wood spacer for the reel seat. Weighs 97 grams. ImageImageImageImage

That is a very elegant way of doing a carbon fibre ferrule.
