#86Just finished up another D8013 tri-hex. You can see the different-sized flats. Spalted ash reelseat, hand-made 14/64 step-down ferrule, a nice black Snake stripper.

#87Pretty rod Lee. Will I get a chance to play with that one this weekend, or is it for a customer?

#88Thanks Harry. I'll have this rod at SRG to cast against the original of that design, then it's going to get a ride to Colorado.
Will also have new 8615s in regular hex and tri-hex design.

#90How about the "PWF" special for your perusal;
and out of its case and scabbard
A 7' 2/2 based loosely on an Edwards taper
Mortised with Bo-Cote and in a Shedua form fit.
And a couple of close ups;

#92Jim,
My thanks to you sir!!!
Casting this rod on the football field before it left here I had one of my student's (fly tieing and rod making) cast it and he described it as absolute perfection.
I look forward to hearing Pats reaction to it when it arrives there

#93Wow, you're a devilish sort, Mr. Hatton. My anticipation was high, and now you post photos. An astounding work of art. If that tool arrives today, the temps are ideal to give it a little test on a local stream. Nice. And I love the dark cane!

#96I finished an 8615 tri-hex just in time for SRG. Haven't even put a finish on the reelseat fittings yet.
Smooth like the regular 8615 but I think it has a little more power than the regular hex 8615 - I can get tighter loops with a DT6 than a WF6. Weighs 4.3 oz. Mesquite wood in a repro Dickerson uplock, 15/64 step-downs - really one of Dickerson's nicer tapers.

#98Jeff, your work is astounding. This is a great example of a new twist on an old idea. Reminds me of a 19th Century Conroy ash/greenheart.

#99I'll add that if that rod of Lee's is the one I cast at SRG (and it sure looks like it is), then it casts as nicely as it looks. I had two favorite rods I cast at SRG, this one of Lee's was one of the two.
I'll admit though, that I was not casting without bias. I got to know Lee a bit at the SRG (thanks for the ferrule making lessons, Lee!), and he was one of my favorite PEOPLE at the event too. A great rod and a great guy.
