#382Very nice, Lon. Are they assigned to specific rods?
Great start on new photos for this thread.

#383Thanks, Chris. Not exactly "assigned," but I do tend to use the 3 3/8" Georges on 8 1/2-foot rods, most recently on my Payne 205 on the West Branch.

#384Hi Guys, I just 'thumbed' my way through all of this thread. I just got a 'cut rate' 3 3/4" St. George and wondered if it was the largest size. But gosh, that Photobucket debacle really takes the zing out of what's been a great topic.

#386The biggest of the Sgt. Georges is the Salmon model, extreamly rare in the original ( made between 1921 and 1924, under 100, may be half of that were made ) saw one for sale on Ebay a couple of month ago, asking-price $ 13.000, I do´nt know if it was sold. For my part I bought a replica a Hardy Sgt.George Salmon Hot Spur 11/12 LHW, they came out on the market 2012 I think it was and left last year, my guess, only a few hundred samples were made. // Steenbluesjay wrote:Hi Guys, I just 'thumbed' my way through all of this thread. #387Sad to see all the PB pic links useless. I thought about going through all my threads and updating them, but it is just too big a task. Anyway, I will post some new links from time to time, starting with a Salmon St George.

Re: Ode to George
#398Thank you, its taken 3 years of searching. My favorites for admiring are the 3 3/4'' and 3 3/8'' sunken / recessed strap over's and ivorine handles.. The 3 3/8'' has a N/S latch cover, and 1911-12 check, red agate. I'am thinking it was a transition period reel. The 3 3/4'' is the same, other than the alloy latch cover. Next being the 3 3/8'' 1917 check root beer agate reel. My favorite's to fish are the 3'' on the short Marvels and C.C.Defance, chasing mountain trout.
Thank you all for sharing your reels with us, your time and pictures are appreciated.

#399Here's a recent acquisition that I'm torn over whether or not to fish it. 3-screw, leaded, 3-3/8", straight lettering. Minty. I doubt this reel has ever been mounted on a rod or had a line on it. A few very light handling marks on the back, slight mark at the spool release. The lighting in the photos make it look worse than it is. Spindle is dry and shows no evidence of ever having any oil or grease applied. Marked "Z8" or "8Z". The nicest leading I've seen on a St. George. Any thoughts on year of production and the maker? My guess is 1946-49.
Re: Ode to George
#400Ryan, That is a beauty! I think you are right on the age, pre 1950 3 screw latch, straight logo, and ribbed foot all point to the late 1940's. I'd fish it! but that first scratch is gonna hurt. I love this thread!
Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and man can only mar it. T.R.
