#422Are you dating those reels to an exact year? I am curious as to how as I have a couple that I'd love to know when made.
Re: Ode to George
#424Pretty sure they are dating them to the commonly referred to check dates. 1906, 1912, 1917 chief among them. 1896 is another that comes to mind.jhuskey wrote:Are you dating those reels to an exact year? I am curious as to how as I have a couple that I'd love to know when made.

Re: Ode to George
#425Depending on the reel, it might be possible to narrow the date range down based on some of the attributes of the reel and makers initials if there are any. If you have some pictures, post them and see what comes of it.jhuskey wrote:Are you dating those reels to an exact year? I am curious as to how as I have a couple that I'd love to know when made.

Re: Ode to George
#426Very nice reels! Allthough I think the 1912 st. Geoerge's should have a strap over the tension screw.. no?
Re: Ode to George
#427Yes, I was referring to the check type, along with a combination of other features.cregb wrote:Pretty sure they are dating them to the commonly referred to check dates. 1906, 1912, 1917 chief among them. 1896 is another that comes to mind.jhuskey wrote:Are you dating those reels to an exact year? That is a good point. I am not sure, to be honest. It would be great to know. The reel has all other 1912 characteristics but perhaps it is a transitional reel?

Easiest way to find out is to show us the innards

Thanks for the clarification AL7.
Re: Ode to George
#431AL7, post a pic of the internals of the St George reels and maybe we can help more...
Re: Ode to George
#432Another 3 3/8" St. George with 90-95% Leaded Finish, Ginger Beer unblemished Agate.
//Photographed under direct light that enhances all imperfections. It looks superb in real life.

Re: Ode to George
#434I'm still looking for a spool that will fit a 3 3/8" MKII. I have all the makings of one, except the spool. If anyone has one they would consider selling, please send me a PM.

#436Here, I present 3, a couple with unusual features...
3" on the left, 3 3/4" in the middle and 3 3/8" on the right - a lefty, an ambidextrous, and a righty

Re: Ode to George
#438Looking at the 3 3/4" in the middle it's clearly an MK2 and therefore is convertible to either hand.

Re: Ode to George
#439So that reel started as a Lefty and possibly someone added the other line guard ?
What a cool reel!
What a cool reel!

Re: Ode to George
#440No, it started as a RHW, a previous owner moved the line guard to make it set up for LHW, and I added the second line guard to fill the hole and make it usable in either LHW or RHW.Brian Shaffer wrote:So that reel started as a Lefty and possibly someone added the other line guard ?
