Re: Tiny Water Stalkers - what to enjoy besides the Boo?
#721I have decided to interpret the thread title as a question. A challenge perhaps. This does however let me share my day with you.
So when asked the question Tiny Water Stalkers - what to enjoy besides the Boo? I will answer, I can enjoy Glass instead.
Orvis Superfine Glass 3# 7'6"
On a stunning fall day that benefited from some small rain squalls overnight, leaving a tiny bit of discoloration in the water, and a seasonally generous flow. The stream is divided in 2 by an impoundment. Below the impoundment it is a wild Brown trout fishery. Brook trout above. I have mixed feelings on the impoundment. It is ugly, and ill cared for, but it does serve as a barrier stopping the browns from taking over the brookies above. It is a healthy isolated stretch of brook trout, wild and native. But I was there for the browns.
I have mixed results on this water, some days when the stream is stingy, and some days when she is giving. Today I was fortunate as she was in the later mood. My presentations needed to be spot on, sloppiness was not rewarded.
An above average reward..
Fall is starting to take hold with yellows showing in the autumn sun.
I have been enjoying the Covered Bridge show, and I have none to offer from this trip. I do like trail bridges though
I did work my way up above the impoundment, but went lightly on the Brookies. I fished for them a couple of weeks ago.
Another above average reward
Finally one more trail bridge. I caught one in the pool at the top of the frame. Called it my last cast after catching the fish. I will leave the rest for someone else this afternoon. I had a very good day

#725“Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery.” ― Cormac McCarthy, The Road

#728First day out for the season on a favorite small stream yesterday. My brother and I both needing to get out in the woods for the day, chasing wild trout. Fished my 7' Jenkins GL 70. Plenty of folks at the trailhead, so we hiked in quite a way to avoid any other anglers and we were treated to a sunny, beautiful day. Cheers to bringing this thread back for the season and to enjoying those tiny waters. A beautiful herd of Elk bid us farewell as we left.

#733Some spring wanderings. The flower riot going on this time of year can be very distracting.
Hot lunch season is starting to wane. Pork steak, beans and potato salad on the menu.
Leonard Catskill 36 and a 30s era 3" Bougle.
The dogwoods.
After lunch I gave the 6' Catskill 37 a whirl. Leonard Fairy reel and a silk DT2. Leader attached with a jam knot just barely fits through the tiny snakes and tiptop. But I managed one small wild brown before putting it back in the truck.
