I got this 8’ Folsom/Heddon Featherweight from one of our friends here on the board. Just terrific. I’ll fish it with the 4 Brothers Delite I bought from Sante’s estate. Just need some warmer weather!

Just received a new 6'5" (3/4 wgt) quad from Carpenter Bros (Chris Carpenter). Chris made me the rod for my favorite stream and it is exceptional. Cant wait to use it!

Picked up a Phillipson 9' 3/1 Pacemaker. Still need to measure the ferrules, but I've started the resto.

A couple months ago I was fortunate enough to acquire my favorite taper and favorite grade from a fellow forum member: a W&M Granger Deluxe 8040 in great shape. Can’t wait for this crazy weather to pass so I can try it out!

And the DeLuxe--as shown--is just as pretty, IMHO! ;)

Sorry about the confusion! I probably shouldn't have used the word "favorite" twice while describing a Granger rod that wasn't a Favorite!

New PHY Midge clone built by PJ Julius, brought the newborn home just yesterday. It casts as beautifully as the originals that I've handled -- magical.

Hi All,

I'm super excited. This week I took delivery on a Takemoto 8'6" 3/2 #6. The rod uses Masaki Takemoto's hollow-T method of construction (described in chapter 7 of Yuri Bando's wonderful recent book Mostly Bamboo about contemporary Japanese rod makers). It is an 8-sided rod, with fiberglass ferrules. It uses his characteristic one-footed guides, and has a curly-ash space with cap and ring seat hardware. I purchased the rod while on a trip to Japan in summer 2018. The rod was completed about this time last year, but COVID restrictions had made it impossible to ship from Tokyo to the US until now (finally used FedEx). It arrived on Tuesday, and today I had a free hour over lunch to take it out for lawn casting and a few photos. A welcome change, the sun was shining and temps were in the 50s, though t was a windy spring day (so perfect conditions to test out a #6). It is a strikingly beautiful rod. I was trying a few different lines, so you get a pic with a hardy perfect 3 1/8 and one with a San Miguel 3. The blueing on the hardware matches the Hardy, but I think the Ross matches best with the glossy ferrules and the black threadwork. It casts beautifully--just the combination of power and feel that I was hoping for. Accurate up close and easily able to stretch out for longer casts. I've seen some of Glen Brackett's octi-rods come up for sale, but have never handled an 8-sided rod. This blank almost has the feel of a quad but instead of the sharp 90 degree angles, it is as though they have been rounded off at the edge. You can see a diagram of his 8-sided construction on the rod tube sticker. Can't wait for the season to start so that I can put it through its paces on the water! Made my week, that's for sure.

Bret
