Wow, that's quite the find. Never heard of a short 3 wt. Powell like that. Is it hollow?

Will be interested in what you think of it - I think that Powell's are very underrated but have not come across such a light line version. I own one of the 100 'Ultimate' Companion rods that he made which is a 2 butt 3 tip combo with a leather case.
I missed out on a regular companion set on ebay just last week that Hoagy was selling and went very cheap imho - little used with 2 butts and 2 tips so basically a pair of one tip 5wt (7'6" and 8'6") rods for $710 .... I had not set up a snipe and got caught on the 'phone at finishing time ... but someone got a bargain.

It's elegant to cast, definitely a tough rod with wind as it places the leader ever so gently on the lawn, while I prefer a rod that casts medium to fast this would be medium minus but not slow. I think it will be perfect for presenting a fly when a minimum amount of disruption is needed and will know more when I can actually fish it.

As I once read 'it is a Gentleman's rod, you won't like it' Image
If you cannot find anywhere with no disruption I will help you out - say $250 cash on collection ?Image

I will attest to the condition of this rod, as I got to see it in person a few days ago. Also got a chance to give it a little wiggle (no casting) and if you don't smile just from wiggling it, you have no soul.

I do believe it is too much rod for NJ trout.

Mike would you agree this rod is far more suited for Pennsylvania? Also, we're leaving for Yellowstone in a week or so. Mike would it also be safe to say this would be a nice travel rod? Just askin' Mike.......:)

A nice travel rod? Depends on who it's traveling with, I guess. :)

In spite of Powell being a West Coaster, the rod seems to be crying out to be strapped to a pack, taken on a hike into the depths of the aboreal forests. Find the headwaters, find the remote high elevation body of water. Get away from the people. Find the "Last of the Native Brook Trout". Toss out a size 12 or 14 Royal Wulff, sit back and enjoy.

Pennsylvania? Perhaps out to George Harvey way, but not the Pittsburgh/Philadelphia bits. I think where it is right now is where it belongs (and no, that's not NH :))

Welcome to the quiet forum Mats! ;) I've been offline for almost a month due to a new PC which ended up crashing hard after only 3 days, I now have it running with a tri-boot system, i.e. Vista 64 bit, Windows 7 RC Build 7100 Ultimate 64 bit and Ubuntu 9.04 operating systems......
