I just obtained a very nice Granger Deluxe GD 8642 rod and original tube and am trying to find out the manufacture's date. On the reel seat it says patent pending above the Goodwin/Granger company logo. Can anyone help with this question. When I first opened the tube, inside the cap was a wad of old newspaper put there to keep the rod from bouncing around. It was from the Wilkes-Barre Evening times, dated June 21, 1941!! Time capsules like this are sure fun to find. What a story this rod could tell!

#3Lucky, I don't mean to sound negative but 26 views doesn't mean anything and quite frankly it's not a lot. Just because people looked at it doesn't mean they know the information or it could mean that they just can't answer it at that time. Most people here have jobs or other daily commitments. Plus, I don't think you're going to get many responses with that tone.
Having said that, I believe that the "Pat. Pend" started around 1935 when the patent papers were filed. I believe these reel seats were used till 1938. And then that's when they started making the seats with the April 12, 1938 stamp.

#4You may also want to repost this on the Collecting Bamboo Fly Rods forum - it seems to get more attention from more folks than here (not that it should, just think it does)
P.S. welcome to the forum btw
