I know what you mean. In the back of my mind —wherever that is— I’m still thinking a slender little 2-1/2 oz beauty would be hard to pass up.

That’s a nice set of rods there BB.

3 x 6' Heddon fly rods is not something that you see every day. In fact, these are the first 3 that I ever recall seeing! What weight line do you use with these?

They are marked HEH, which is a DT5, but I like them with a 4. They weigh 2.9 oz and have size 10/64 ferrules. The 618 has an 11/64 ferrule. Very nice casting rods.

They are fun! Each one is separated by a generous serial number. Each one unique in its casting demeanor.

I have never had the pleasure of handling a PHY Perfectionist, but oh my Goodness! The simple utilitarian aesthetics are so very pleasing!

Well how about four of a kind. All Blackburn. From the top an 8' 6wt. an 8' 4/5wt. a 7'9" 4wt. and a 7' 4wt. All but the 8' 6wt. are hollow built. The 6wt. is solid. Upon my request Bill built this 6wt. for me based on an Ohmar Needham taper. Enjoy!

Thanx Jay. I had a 6'3" 4wt. of Bill's also but in a weak moment I sold it. Should never have let that little bugger go. :)

To my mind, the most unusual and fascinating of the many Granger rods produced over about 40 years are the unique "First Era" rods. evidence suggests they were hand planed by Goodwin Granger himself. As you may know, tapers and fittings were quite different from the rods produced after about 1923.

I am fortunate to have found seven of the First Era rods. All are original, straight, sound and still very fishable. Here are three examples:
Image
An 8 1/2 ft. DeLuxe weighing but 4.26 oz. A second tip has been made using an original ferrule by Scott Whitman.

Image
A 9 1/2 ft. Premier weighing 5 1/2 oz. w/ 18/12 ferrules.

Image
The exceptionally rare circa 1918 9 1/2 ft. Special. Fewer than eight of this grade are known to still exist.

Three Charlie Jenkins 75s got together..... The one with the soiled grip is a 3/2, the others 2/2. 7'6" 4/5 wts all.
Charlie made the screwthreads for the seats, and I'm not sure how much else of the hardware. The simple garrison grips are very comfortable.
Steve really upped the finish quality with his later rods (the flamed ones are gorgeous), but these early ones have their own charm.

It was 3 Phillipson rods, until the 7 1/2' Peerless joined last Fall.... I've got a rod from each decade under the Bill Phillipson's reign.

From left to right:
7 1/2' Peerless impregnated 6 weight from 1972 (I bought it from an "elderly" gentleman who had purchased the rod from Bill Phillipson personally just before 3M took over the company)
8' Pacemaker 5 weight - late 1940s
8 1/2' Peerless Dry Fly Special - 6 weight from 1960s
9' Paramount "51" 7 weight

Three Housatonic Rod Co. rods
An Edwards Presentation rod 8' 4 wt. My first really good rod.
A 7.5' 5/6 wt. A nice 2 piece rod.
A 8' 4 wt that I thought would be my last rod. Since then I have picked up a few more...

Wow, those Bill Abrams rods are nice.

Here's a trio of pre-fire Leonard Catskills. 38ACM with a nice walnut reelseat spacer, an early Model 35 and a later 36 with an unusual cork reelseat. Great fishing rods all.

They are fun rods. The 35 & 36 are very similar, in spite of being 30 or so years apart. Both have easy medium actions, able to do anything you might require of a small stream rod. I like them with a 3 and 4 line, respectively. The 38ACM is somewhat different, has a stiffish butt and a fine limber tip. It somehow feels powerful and delicate at the same time. Faster than the other two. I like it with a DT3 and it has become a real favorite.
