Most beautiful trout streams

or however that dang word is written! : ) Use this forum to discuss those things that are related to, directly, or indirectly, fly fishing, i.e., tackle, catalogs, single malt scotch, cigar preferences, pipes, camera gear, etc. This is sort of an off topic area but one related to bamboo and fly fishing.

Nice stream Jay. Why has it been closed for 10 years?
There was a landslide due to heavy rain

So my close to home waters, the Big Thompson, St Vrain, South Platte, Poudre and beautiful to me. I am in Western NC and also think the Davidson, Raven Fork, Soco Creek, West fork of the Pigeon are beautiful as well. If I can stand in a stream and fool a trout into taking fur and feathers the water is beautiful to me.

Sorry guys. I'm not sharing any of my favorites no matter how beautiful they are. :)

I thought about making this a poll, but it just won't work. So how about putting forth what you think is the most beautiful trout stream (not necessarily the best) in the east, midwest, and west. No way will there be much agreement, we all have such different experiences. Mine are:

East---------------- West Branch of the Ausable, New York
Midwest----------- There are no beautiful trout streams
West--------------- Metolious, Oregon

What is the best trout stream you have ever fished? Mine is the upper Logan in Franklin Basin, Utah.
May I suggest you fish the Ausable River, near Baldwin Michigan, when the Hex hatch starts. It is mind-boggling event.
There are numerous streams in the Adirondack and Catskill (Hendrickson hatch on the Delaware) region of New York that are the "best". Drive south into Pennsylyania, you will find both freestone and spring creeks that are superb fisheries.
I distain the use of superlatives, "best", but the best trout fishing I have ever had in 47 years of fly fishing was and still is, The San Juan River in NW New Mexico. Followed up with the spring creeks near Livingston Montana.

Thanks for the explanation Jay. So did the landslide shut down access or effectively dam the stream? Or is it being closed to allow the stream and trout to recover if the stream was heavily damaged during the slide?

Does anyone know what happened to the OP? Angry Andy had some funny posts, as well as a classic thread, "Your Age."

Not 100% sure but I think it was a bit of that all. Maybe we will be able to fish it again in the future

Thanks for resurrecting the thread. I may have missed it, but I am surprised no one mentioned the Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam. It would be in a three-way tie for me with the McCloud (Nature Conservancy water) and the Firehole.

In any case, I nominate Spearfish Creek in the Black Hills as a beautiful trout stream... no matter where you place it geographically, Andy. And if you want to see a few photos of it, check out the "footsteps" thread on the Fishing Bamboo board.
Easy on the Black Hills kudos. I'd hate to run into other anglers when I make my visit every few years to celebrate where my grandfather taught me to fish.

It's really not all that beautiful...

Kind of strange color to that stream Silver Doctor. Is that a true color or just from lense or sky conditions?

East: LeTort and Falling Springs

Midwest: Driftless area

West: Silver Creek area, including Mackey, Poindexter Slough.

I
Loved the Firehole, but the Park Service has made many. Areas inaccessible to seniors.
