would you:
A) replace the missing guides and leave it at that
B) replace the missing guides and revarnish the remaining wraps to secure them
C) replace the missing guides, while also removing the old wraps and replacing them while maintaining the original varnish on the rod itself
also, there's the issue of silk color... the original silk wraps were basically white and color preserved (appear opaque) but now appear a nice gold color due to the varnish aging... if i replace all of the wraps, would you do the original color (slightly off-white) w/ CP (lacquer or shellac) which doesnt look as eye pleasing (to me at least).... or would you do a off-white/pale yellow w/ CP which maintains the more pleasing look of the aged varnish but w/ new silk...
in the pic below you can see the missing guide wrap and the aged wrap w/ some of the original silk color sticking out (where the varnish is missing)
decision, decisions... I look forward to any thoughts...
