Just wondering if anyone has seen one of these or could give me any info on the vise. Feel free to post some pics of your unique vises also. Thanks!

Appears to be a later, limited-edition adaptation of the 1930's "Sportsman" series of PHY vises, using a wing nut on the right side and an
adjustment screw on the left side to control the gap between the jaws. The hole on top, just forward of the bend in the vise neck, would have held a thread
holder made of bronze, if this feature was copied from the old "Sportsman" vise.

I'd post a picture of my fingers and a button (for a tying silk catch) but I'm not sure anyone would appreciate it.
Thanks for sharing pictures of that vise. Does anyone have one of the old hand crank vises (was it a herters) that had a gear box on the back end? |

I'd post a photo of Lee Wulff's fingers, and forget about the vise!
Here is a 1930's-era Paul H. Young "Sportsman" vise, one of the four versions at different price points that he marketed. The bronze materials clip can be clearly seen, beside the lever that opens and closes the jaws. The fly is a 1940's Spent-Wing Adams Egg Sac from the Paul H. Young Co.

Robert, without hijacking the thread... do you have close ups of the PHY EL Adams and the bivisible that you could share? Thanks.

There is a slightly better close up of the Adams Egg Sac and a spent-wing Royal Coachman on the database page. Will get some bigger, better photos up at a
later date.

I love old vises.
I posted a photo of this one a while ago, but this thread made me want to put it up again! An H.L. Leonard from around 1975, I love tying on this one.

John ... very nice. Back drop of the classic hooks and flies sweet.

That Leonard is a sweet vise, John! I tie on a Xuron (Phelps, Thomas, Darbee, like the one shown on the back DJ flap of the "Code"). They only come
pedestal mounted these days, and the unique nature of the ball and socket mount would require a custom machined c-clamp, so I haven't gotten far in
pursuing that. Your Leonard is similar enough in head design that I should spend some time looking for one of those, instead of trying to make my Xuron into a
c-clamp vise. If you have any possible sources, please point the way.
