I have found it shoe repair shops, but you can order it on line with no problem. A six ounce container is about 5 or 6 bucks. I found my most recent supply at
Walmart. It's made by Summit Industries, Marietta, GA. Their website is: www.lexol.com

Hardy bags | #45 | ||
|
Over the years I have collected a number of (mostly) used Hardy bags in all sizes and of all vintages.
The oldest one I found is a "Troutfisher" bag (the one with the net on the front side). It has a part leather shoulder strap and is of rather massive size. On most of my travels I just carry my reels in this one to leave it in the car and take one of the smaller bags to the river. Depending on what I need to take, it may be the "Aln" or the "Test" bag. Mostly I just have a few flyboxes in there, some Mucilin and a bottle of Bergman´s formula floatant. But the larger one will also take a bottle of water and a sandwich. Tools, tippet dispenser and other stuff I carry on a lanyard around my neck. Easier access here. My landing net I have on a magnetic release. The loop on the other side is wound around the raw textured (canvas?) shoulder strap of the bag. Due to the rough surface of the strap material the tie of the magnetic release stays in place perfectly well. I recently won an auction for another old "Troutfisher" bag on the auction site formerly known as Bahia Electronica. Don´t have it with me yet but the bag might be of a bit younger vintage than my initial model. The combined ages of both bags should be a three digit figure still. The question remaining is who actually built all my Hardy bags. I am pretty certain that they were not made by the Hardy company but bought in from either Brady or another similar supplier. Should anyone have any information here, I would be glad for any hint. Andy |

Army belt | #48 | ||
|
Just posted this in another thread. Saw some old army surplus leather belts with ammo pouches on, 3 each side plus a metal catch/attachment that landing net
would clip onto.
If you need more storage add extra pouches or wear one, or two as bandoliers! Great for you guys who wear camo.

I picked up this bag in the hopes it would work better than my little Fishpond bag which I felt was too bulky. I am very happy with the bag - it sits flat
against the small of my back and holds everything I need (with room to spare). Since I bought this at the place where I work, I'm not going to name names
(I don't want to shill). I just wanted to show what has worked well for me.
Nice bag. I you have any questions, you could e-mail me. If that's inappropriate, let me know, and I'll delete this post. Dean D

Nice bag. Which size? 600, 800 or 900 litres?

Hey TC,
Actually, the bag is 600 cubic inches, has a main compartment and three pockets, weighs 15oz, and is 13x10x5. The only thing I haven't settled on is where I want to hang my net. But that was an issue with a vest as well as the Fishpond. I like the shoulder strap - it's quite comfortable. Dean

Olaf's Tackle Bags | #53 | ||

I receive mine today. It's Beautiful. It matches the Filson Beige Tin Cloth. But, it is more supple.
The leather trim is perfect. This is a true value if you compare it to the other Fishing bags. Phil |

What a handsome bag! The craftsmanship and materials are outstanding. It certainly outclasses my skill, attire and other tackle. Thanks
Olaf. I'll carry it with pride.

If I didn't already have my Chapman bag, I would also be in the possession of an new Olaf bag. They look splendid and I hope he continues to make them. I
think they will find a neat little niche in the fly tackle market. When quality can be had for a good price, you can't go wrong, and the very best
advertising is word of mouth by happy, enthusiastic customers.

I would like to thank you for the nice words about the bags. I'm very happy that you like them and all the work has payed of. Our small team put a lot of
work in this bags and I have to thank two very nice women with out it would not be possible to do this. I will do a second run on this bags but at the moment
I'm working on two new projects and hope that I can show you some thing in about two months.
Thanks Olaf |

Long ago Eddie Bauer made a run at the fly fishing business and had a nice store in Washington DC. I bought a bag there, classic English type, for, as I
recall, $28.50. The waterproof liner is long gone, but the bag itself is as good as ever.

Great thread! First off, gespliesste ---a lovely bag (like your rods).
Question: Is bag and vest unthinkable? Like belt and suspenders. I keep my vest very light. The night before I assemble a box or at most two boxes of likely flies, and the necessary leaders, tippet etc.. I like how my net deploys on the back of my vest. I would think a small bag might be nice for maps, bottle of water, repellent, compass, sandwich, back up reel, etc, etc.. On my small brookie stream sorties I can see bag only---I have a tiny net that would work on the ring. Thanks for all the info. Now a dumb question: some bags have netting on the outside, why?? |

Found the Lexol at our local Tractor Supply store in the section where they sell leather goods for horses. It worked beautifully for conditioning my leather
rod tubes and an old Orvis bag that is about 1/2 leather.

Question: Is bag and vest unthinkable? Like belt and suspenders.
My principle is "no such thing as too many pockets." I carry multiple everything- scissors, nippers, fly floatant, leader sink, tippet spools, penlights...
