I'm posting this query on the reels board (and not the fly-tying board) because it has to do with the sticky on tempering reel springs. Moderators, if you
feel this belongs on the fly tying board, please feel free to move it.
My question is: can Bulldog's suggested tempering process (350 degrees for 15 minutes) be adapted to tempering hooks? I have some older Mustads that are a little too soft for my taste and I'd like to try to temper them a bit more--has anyone tried this?
Say, a size 16 medium-wire--350 degrees, should I shorten the time? Air cool also? I suppose it's all trial and error and I plan to do some tests--so we will see.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Many thanks,
bb
